HOUSTON POETRY SLAM

Founded in 2002 by Doug Shields as the Southmore House Slam, because the slam was hosted at the now defunct artist commune Southmore House, the slam series quickly caught the interest of major poets in Houston's poetry community.

Cedric Ary a.k.a Brother Said took over as Slammaster in 2005. He coached the team until 2013.

Tamara Nichols  led the very first Southmore House Slam Team to semi-finals  as Slam Master and Coach in  2002
